Baggage Allowances

The following policy and charges apply to travel from 15th November 2011

Excess baggage charges (paid at the airport)

The following are the charges and fees to be applied to overweight and excess baggage when payment is made at the airport. You can save money by paying for additional baggage online at the time of making your booking.

Lusaka to Ndola and Livingstone and vv

If you have excess baggage or additional baggage please make payment at the Proflight Zambia office before you pass through security. Payment will be accepted in Cash (Kwacha or USD) or Visa or Mastercard. Once paid these charges are non-refundable.

Excess/additional baggage paid online

The following are the charges and fees to be applied to additional baggage when payment is made at online at the same time as making the booking on www.proflight-zambia.com. Once paid these charges are non-refundable.

Lusaka-Livingstone and vv; Lusaka-Ndola and vv

Checked bags 23 kg or less
Each additional bag USD 25

All other routes

Checked bags 15 kg or less
Each additional bag USD 25

Definitions

First Checked Bag: You are permitted to check-in one bag up 23 kgs (Lusaka-Ndola and Lusaka-Livingstone routes and vv) or 15 kgs on all other routes. The maximum dimensions of 157 cm; bags will be weighed and measured at check in.

Extra bag fee: Each item is excess of the one allowable piece with max dimensions of 157 cm.

Overweight bag fee: Will apply to all bags over the maximum weight according to the route. In the event of a connecting flight within Zambia the lower limit of 15 kg will apply to both flights.

Important reminder – excess/additional baggage is on a standby basis and is subject to space and is only loaded once flight is closed and authorisation from captain is given to load excess./p>

Sports Equipment, Bicycles, Fishing Gear, etc.

Golf bags, bicycles and fishing gear, etc form part of your free ‘first checked bag’ allowance. Sports equipment exceeding this  will be carried subject to payment of the appropriate ‘Extra Bag’ fee and will be loaded on a Standby basis. Storage of Excess Baggage

With a minimum of 72 hours notice passengers can arrange for excess baggage to be stored at the Proflight Zambia hangar facilities free of charge and this can be collected upon their return. Proflight Zambia will not be liable for any loss or damage to baggage stored on the customer’s behalf. If you wish to avail of this service please complete the Feedback Form.

IMPORTANT

Checked Luggage – Proflight Zambia will not accept items not covered in our limit of liability in or as checked baggage and assumes no responsibility or liability for such items, regardless of whether Proflight Zambia knew or should have known of the presence of such items in checked or transferred baggage. If any such items (camera equipment, jewellery, computers, videos or optical equipment, etc.) are lost, damaged or delayed, you will not be entitled to any reimbursement under our standard baggage liability, or under any declared excess valuation. Do not attempt to check these items. Carry them with you in the passenger cabin (subject to carryon baggage limitations).

Notice of Baggage Liability Limitations

Liability for loss, delay, or damage to baggage is limited unless a higher value is declared in advance and additional charges are paid. For most international travel, including domestic portions of international journeys, the liability limit is approximately US$9.07 per pound or US$20.00 per kg for checked baggage and US$400.00 per passenger for unchecked baggage.

NOTE: Baggage which is already damaged, contains fragile items, is inadequately packed, is not admissible in the cabin or is on ‘Standby’ will be accepted subject to ‘Limited Liability’, meaning that these liability limits may not apply.

Time limit for action  Baggage claims: Written notice to the carrier must be made within 7 days of the receipt of checked baggage in the case of damage, and, in the case of delay, within 21 days from the date on which it was placed at the disposal of the passenger.
